‘Goat is poor man’s cow’ – the term coined by Mahatma Gandhi, in India and is a very suitable livelihood option for small and marginal farmers in dry land farming system. Goat is the best alternative domestic pet for income generation where marginal or undulating lands unsuitable for other types of animals like cow or buffalo. Goat farming requires low investments and with proper awareness on goat rearing, it can be made in to a profitable venture for small and marginal farmers.
